Growing up a Muslim, I was ignorant to what that actually meant as I was just following traditions and trying not to come across as a bad muslim who didn’t know anything. I actually knew very little considering how big a topic this was. A friend of mind said something to me that made me think. As muslim, you are taught to eat only halal meat. I like most muslims didn’t actually know what that meant. Our only clue was someone one put a little Halal sign on the food and we can eat it. My friend said to me ‘you know you can eat the food of the people of the book’. I was complete caught off guard with this new bit of information. Since then, I have been doing a lot of research on and off and it has completely changed my perspective on life and my relationship with God. My eyes have been opened to the corruption of Islam and the Quran that has taken place over time result of which is the Islam we have today full of rituals and conjecture.
I have completely stopped performing rituals as I believe it is neither required or helpful as well as being counterproductive. I believe God’s fundamental message is for us to live in peace and help one another. We are programmed to differentiate right from wrong and do what God wants us to do but it is our human influences that take us away from that. Our emotions and fears which are commonly described as the seven deadly sins that stop us from thinking rationally thus taking us away from our path.
As my learning progresses, I endeavour to write about what I have learnt which I hope you will find enlightening and give you something to ponder over.
